Overpopulation is causing a strain on water and food supplies.
Most of the world has to irrigate water to grow crops. This means they pump water out of the ground for crops to grow. pretty much everywhere in the Middle East and Africa does this when they grow their crops. Ever wonder why it's so dry over there ? It wasn't always like that. It used to be called the "fertile crescent". The water table dropped though, and it's dropping here in the U.S. too. In fact, they have to irrigate most of their crops pretty much everywhere except for the Midwestern United States. They even do it here sometimes when it's dry. If the water table drops low enough, there won't be enough water for the crops to grow, or for people to drink. They have to dig wells deeper and deeper to get to the water. Pretty soon, there won't be enough fresh drinking water to go around.
The only way we can sustain our large population is through agriculture. Just about everything has corn, beans, or wheat in it. Ideally, the population needs to decrease. Some experts say the earth should have never had more than 2 billion people on it. There are now 7 billion plus and counting. It could get interesting in the next 50 years.
