Blog # 51 Anthropology : bitchin' major

I major in anthropology, which is pretty much all about humans.  Anthropologists don't dig for dinosaurs, paleontologists do that.  Some anthropologists do dig and research human remains.  When the remains are ancient, those anthropologists are called archaeologists.  When the remains are fresh, like CSI, your looking at a forensic anthropologist.  Some anthropologists don't play with human remains, but rather study the behavior of humans or human languages.  These are considered cultural anthropogists.   

Switching gears, I double minor is in two separate fields of earth science.  Economic geology and petrology and mineralogy.  In all actuality, if things go well, I may end up going grad school for something out of this field.  It really depends on what mood I'm in, and how advisers and professors influence me.   There are some pretty cool career fields that allow for travels in the field of earth science.  Of course, the same can be said for anthropology. 

If your wondering what you can do with an anthropology degree, keep wondering.  No, I joke.  There are lots of things you can do with an anthropology degree, but usually you're best served to get a masters after completion of the B.A. or B.S..  They say it's good to get your degrees from different schools.  It's probable that I end up getting my masters in Coral Gables at the University of Miami.  It's either going to be there, or another school somewhere out of the "freeze you ass off in the winter" zone. 

The plan is to teach with my degree(s).  Probably elementary or high school, possibly a community college or something. 
I'll also do fieldwork in Central and South America at some point.  I may just live there as long as knife/gun fights can be avoided.  As long as there's some water, food, a few pretty girls, and Corona, I think I'll be happy there.   I actually don't care for Corona much, I'll find something good though.
