Blog # 39 Texting created bad habits

Commas still get me.  I think I use them sometimes when I shouldn't.  Sometimes maybe I should have used them, and I didn't.  I think it's more about overuse though.  I put a lot of pauses in when I speak, so a lot of my sentences have the same points of hesitation.  I think it's important to take a break in the middle of the sentence, it gives people time to take in information.  Of course, this opens the opportunity for argument on some occasions, but I welcome it.

I dated someone last year who was more of a texter than I was.  Now I text a lot.  Of course, smileys and "lols" are now littered in all of my texts and emails, and I find myself refraining from using them in blogs and papers.  Personally, I think the smiley should just be allowed from now on.  It's like the new exclamations point.  Except it says "I'm not that excited, just happy".

  1. I agree. smileys are good. it lets people with no sense of humor, like aly, realize that you're joking.

  3. I was so crushed when she said we couldn't use smiley's. It's really important for me to express my smiles. I'm sure you do have a sense of humor Aly (smiley with a "D").
