Blog # 35 Purpose of my CP paper

I'm going to make Major League Baseball (MLB) more accountable for the performance enhancing drugs that players used over the past 20 years.  They're just as much to blame as the players.  Rules were minimal, and regulation of the drugs was pretty much non existent until a few years ago.  MLB profited heavily from the use of the performance enhancing drugs.  Now, they're making the players who used them out to be bad guys, scape goats.  What the players did is a "black eye" on the sport.  MLB tries to make it look like it was purely a product of player greed, when in all actuality, it was a product of competition and peer pressure among players and teams.  Money was involved, and that's a pretty big motivator to succeed.
Players are considered villains by some for using the drugs.  They were trying to gain an advantage.   Just like you would if you were practicing, working out, or taking creatine or another "legal" substance.   The drugs may push the limits, and be "illegal" now.  They may also be bad for you physically.  It also isn't fair to the players who weren't using the same performance enhancing drugs.  At the same time, it's not technically "cheating" if it's not against the rules, or there no testing for it.

  1. This is a very interesting topic and i think that they players should not be taking all the blame. I think that the MLB should take more of the blame for not creating stricter rules about drug usage among the players. I think the players who do not use the drugs are going to go further in life then those who did use them because of the health problems that come along with taking the drugs.

  2. While I certainly don't condone the use of performance enhancing drugs. The blame should be mutual. MLB kind of makes the players out to be villains, but they didn't properly regulate the drug use. Players who didn't use drugs will almost certainly go further in life with less health problems.

  3. Do you know why they allowed these drugs and did not regulate them? It seems as if they did not care about the health of the players or the fun of the game. I feel like using these drugs causes the sport to lose its "fun" and to become all about being competitive and winning.

  4. I think this is an interesting topic and I agree with kmichael. I feel that both the MLB and players should be held responsible. I played baseball in high school so this is an important topic for me. I feel like any performancing enhancing drug is cheating and there should be more regulations.

  5. I agree with kmicheal. Blame should go to the environmental conditions (competitiveness, lack of rules, etc) AND to the individuals that made the choices that they did.
